Kathy was always one of the coolest kids in high school — and by that, I mean not very cool at all. She was an art student, political, a feminist before most of us even knew what that was. And so smart! She always challenged me, got me thinking in a strategic political way.

We re-connected on Facebook a few years back and I was sorry to learn she was in the same dire financial straits so many of us have navigated over the past ten years. I don’t know any details, because… what difference does it make?

Now she lives in a tired and crime-ridden inner-ring suburb, and the county has informed her they’re going to sell her house for $400 in back taxes. She doesn’t have a website and I’m still trying to get an email address out of her for Paypal. (Got the email. If you want to use Paypal, let me know.)

But I do have her address. I’m one of these people who absolutely hates mailing stuff, but I found a stamp and sent off a check this morning. I realize this is a lot to ask, but if any of you can afford to send even $20, it will help her keep her house — and what a nice Christmas present that would be.

Write me at the contact tab at the top of the page, and I’ll give you her address.

The amount she needs to stay in her home is so small, it would be a shame to let it happen.
