  1. I love DC not just for their remark about Dubya, but even more for their intransigence in the face of the social shunning and commercial blacklisting they endured: “Not ready to make nice.” Hope they have received some measure of public vindication, although it is well known that DFHs are never right even when we’re right. Still not “making nice:” http://www.rollingstone.com/country/news/natalie-maines-rips-donald-trump-country-radio-hypocrites-w433944

I hitchhiked through Texas many years ago on my way back from a backpacking trip in Central and South America. Got picked up by a frightening collection of perverts, gun waving sociopaths, and just plain nutcases. Very illuminating after the gracious and interested reception I got from virtually every ride I got in Latin America.

If it weren’t for peope like Ann Richards, Jim Hightower, and Natalie Maines I would be inclined to encourage Rick Perry to go ahead and secede. Or maybe build a wall around Austin. However, Trump has revealed that TX is a (not so) microcosm of the US as a whole. Thanks for that, Donald.

Nora Jones is also a TX survivor:

The news men know what they know, but they,
Know even less than what they say,
And I don’t know who I can trust,
    For they come what may.

’cause we believed in our candidate,
But even more it’s the one we hate,
I needed someone I could shake,
    On election day.

But the day after is darker,
And deeper and deeper we go,
Who knows, maybe it’s all a dream,
Who knows if I’ll wake up and scream.

I love the things that you’ve given me,
I cherish you my dear country,
    But sometimes I don’t understand,
    The way we play.
