Maybe the GOP Establishment really wants President Pence?
Maybe the GOPe has been sitting on proof of Russian interference, and/or other chicanery by Trump, or at least reflecting badly on him?
Maybe the GOPe is just waiting for Trump & Pence to be inaugurated, and then, when the time is right, the GOPe will give Trump and his cronies and their true believers the old Dolchstoss? The proof will come out, and the GOP Congress will be “shocked, shocked” at what has been going on in the 2016 elections, and of course, will have no choice but to impeach and remove Trump–of course, they will never find any dirt on Pence–et voila, President Pence!
Maybe the ultimate Trump Chump is Trump himself?
