Born, who introduced the already well-known methods of matrix algebra into QM, also too, Hamilton in the previous century had already named ‘characteristic vector’ in English, which was translated into ‘eigenvektor’, and subsequently re-translated into English as eignvector.
R. A. Fisher also used matrix methods (trait-trait correlation matrix) in population genetics years before QM.
