I think I’ve mentioned that I worked at a fast food joint on Penn’s campus when I was a kid, and the only music we had was the manager’s 8-track of Dave Mason’s “Alone Together.” It’s a tribute to Dave Mason’s talent that I still love these songs:

The Dave Mason album I got hooked on was It’s Like You Never Left. He came and played a show in the East Gym at Humboldt State, something very few top acts ever did, and John Kay opened for him. I was sitting next to Larry Weber, the best guitar player I have ever known, and after John Kay left the stage, he turned to me and said “OK, now for the old master.” Coming from him, that has kinda stuck with me all of these years.
