    Gabriel Boric has been elected Chile’s next President.

    Chileans have been protesting for more than a decade against the Milton Friedmanization of their country which began in 1975 two years after the US inspired coup and assassination of Chile’s Socialist President Salvador Allende.

    The Capitalist oligarchs who sanctioned Fascist General Augusto Pinochet’s military coup promised the Chilean people that “the market will provide prosperity, and that prosperity will fix your problems.” It did not.

    More than 25% of the wealth in Chile is owned by 1% of the population (in the US 40% is owned by 1%).

    Boric promised to shift the Social Security System from a private, for-profit system to a public one; reduce student debt; increase the money going to public education; move to a universal health care system; fund a caregiver system; and support universal abortion rights.

    Milton Freidman’s Capitalist economic model produced low wages, high levels of personal debt, and perpetually underfunded public healthcare and education in Chile.
    As it has done in the United States.
