I heard this in the car yesterday, and I was just tickled. They’ve been doing a lunchtime segment where listeners are asked to send in the name of the first album they ever bought with their own money. This was tricky for me, because a friend of my mom’s did promotions for Capitol Records, and for years, I hardly ever had to pay for an album. 64-68, I’ll say.
Couldn’t I just tell you
I won that same Todd Rundgren album from my local am radio station when I was “a young.” Yes I still have it and yes it sounds great on my 80’s Technics close and play turntable. There sure was a lot of variety on the am dial in the San Francisco Bay Area back in the day along with music in the schools, but that ended and am turned into a rancid crater of hate and grievance. Alas.
