  1. It’s earned its spots, makes its point clearly, conveys a lot of excitement and verve. But compared to, for example, “Good Vibrations,” I say it falls short. Of course in pop music, repetition is important, and so is repetition– that’s why they call it a hook. But compare it to how Wilson repeats themes– on different instruments, in different keys, with different backing harmonies. And the contrasting, although no less joyous, mood of the “Gotta keep those loving good vibrations a-happening with her” part– now that’s genius! If I remember right, that’s the song McCartney says he wishes he’d written…
