My paychecks at more than one of my jobs were drawn on Wells Fargo, and one day when I went in to cash one, they told me that if I didn’t have an account there, they required two forms of picture ID to cash a check. I don’t know anyone who has two forms of picture ID, so I started cashing my checks at No Hassle Check Cashing, where they took 2% but recognized me and treated me like a human being.
After my stroke, I had a large last paycheck from my job and needed to cash it while I was still in the hospital so I could pay my rent, and No Hassle cashed it for me without me being there. They had Briana call my hospital room and asked me a question that I would know the answer to if I was really me. Not a security question from a form, but “who did you usually come in with to cash your paychecks.” “That would be Vincent.” “OK, we’ll cash the check. Are you gonna be all right?”
