As a songwriter, I’d say one reason this love song has had such staying power is that the lyrics McCartney wrote are so vulnerable. No bullshit. He admits it’s something “I don’t really understand” and that he’s afraid of the way he needs her. Who wouldn’t love someone who wrote a song like this for them?
