  1. A+ Slim.

Most lenders don’t really care about a company’s ability to pay back a loan.
What they do care about is the return on their money (ROI) and the ability of a company to pay that return over a long period of time.
So it is with the national debt which the government pays lenders 3% interest per year to borrow.

There is some evidence that the heirs of the first US Treasurer, Alexander Hamilton, are still collecting the interest on the treasury bonds that Hamilton bought over 200 years ago.
A loan shark would rather collect the vig every week on his/her loan then go out and find another borrower.

Republicans have been lying about, demagoguing, and profiting from our national debt for generations.

Congress creates debt (deficit) by giving massive tax cuts to the rich and corporations.
That new debt forces the federal government to borrow money.
The wealthy use their newly acquired tax cut dollars to lend back to the government at 3% interest per year (treasury bonds).

Don’t you wish that you were rich enough to participate in this sweet scam?

  2. Good point, imhotep.

As for me, Emily Post says no one should use ‘Dr.’ unless they are directly involved in service to the general public (i.e physicians and dentists, maybe reverend Drs. like MLK). ‘Is there a doctor in the house’? Now, yes, I think one should not call oneself ‘doctoris’ unless one has a thesis.
BUT, I do not call myself ‘Dr.’ despite my PhD. from Johns Fucking Hopkins (School of Medicine). And I objected to Kissinger always being called ‘Dr.’, too, for that matter.
