The great Rita Moreno, of "West Side Story": "Anita was a role model for me. She had intelligence, dignity, and strength … The true heartbreak came when I couldn’t get a job after winning the Oscar. They kept offering me gang movies. It broke my heart."https://t.co/PytGuZ0qZv

Two of my favorite movies, West Side Story and Scorese’s Taxi Driver.
Thanks for this link. Great lady, great actress and dancer, great human being. Although WSS was a little corny and a little racist even at the time, her performance was for me the strongest of all. Natalie Wood was delicious, as always, but as Maria??? And we all know how she ended up (no we don’t).Richard Beymer later panned his own performance and has gone on to become, ah, an enigma. He was active in civil rights in Mississippi in 1964. And I wasn’t. So there’s that.
Rita Moreno, OTOH, was always what she was and is. Mas respeto.
