The Capitalists in the 1% have all the freedom that their money can buy. They have the freedom to buy the politicians who then corrupt our democracy by writing laws that favor the positions that the paid lobbyists present to them. The really wealthy Capitalists (Koch brothers) fund grand organizations, like ALEC, which actually writes the legislation that their paid for politicians then pass into law. The super-rich, like Sheldon Adelson, spend $100 million dollars to buy giant megaphones to make their wants and needs known publicly. Corporations are people and money is free spech. That’s what the Supreme Court says. Wonder how much free speech and influence $100.00 dollars buys?
Hmmm, basic math would suggest that lobbyists pay our Congress critters something like three times more than their ‘official salary’ per month. What’s the tale from Watergate? “Follow the money?”
As I recall, Calvin Coolidge remarked that “the business of America is business”. And here we see the remarkable market system, uh, interacting with the representatives of the people.
Though some might call it lubing up.
Anyway, within this remarkable capitalist system, people know their place. If your exposure to the free market system consists of seeing/hearing/reading zillions of ads and commercials, then you are part of the 99%.
If your exposure consists of exchanges of lobbyist money, graft, bribes, and other forms of free speech, then you are part of the 1%.
Follow the money and you will find a slippery politician in their pockets and the Board when they leave with our heavy lifetime benefits. Yeah, them!
