Still trying to delete my last application. I spoke to someone Thursday night, who assured me it would be taken care of and to call back in 24 hours to verify. And of course it’s not deleted.
This isn’t an IT problem. It’s a process problem. How could they not have designed and implemented a workable system for removing an application? They have buttons on the site to remove applications — but when you press it, it goes right back to the call center, and they don’t know how to do it. No one does.
The short version is, there’s no way in hell I’m going to have insurance in time for the deadline. Pray that I don’t have any health emergencies in January, because I’m going without insurance again.
I guess the only option I have left is to call my congress critter’s office Monday and see if they can help.

Yes, you will have coverage, Susie, don’t despair. I just got off the phone with the ACA, and got my THIRD application ID number, plus signed up for coverage. Do everything by phone. My first ID number was successfully deleted by phone last night at 11:30 pm (and I kind-of successfully signed up for coverage with the SECOND application ID number). Today, I got a THIRD ID number and re-signed up for coverage, to give my broker credit. It doesn’t matter that I did it successfully last night with another number, and signed up for coverage too, because if I don’t make the first payment by 12/23/13 for the SECOND ID number, no coverage. What I WILL do is make a payment under the THIRD (and final!) application ID number. Call them back – email me for more info.
Luckily I never finished the first time because I could not get through the id verification part. Also I needed to go back and correct the income section but there is no way to get back and edit it. You can edit your name, address, etc., but it skips over the income section to go to the end.
I don’t really care if I ever get through it. I have gone through 10 of the last 12 years without any insurance. And the one time I made a claim on the UFCW union insurance I did have I paid the whole thing in cash because I had a $500 deductible. I am sure as hell not going to get a policy with a $3000 deductible. (There is no HMO option in my state of WV, and even with a subsidy it will be $150/month premium plus $40% copay.) The whole thing is a joke, a fraud and a lie.
If I get chest pain I will just take a couple of aspirin and lay down for a nap and wait to see if I wake up- which is basically all I would get in a hospital. For anything else, I have plenty of gauze and ace bandages.
I still think you should do it. Try healthsherpa.com, it’s a way to get an idea of what you can get without actually applying.
