It was just my imagination, running away with me

So I woke up this morning, the day after my double migraines, and my head hurt. This is new, I’ve never had pain in my head the day after a migraine. I noticed it got a lot worse when I moved, or coughed, or did much of anything. It doesn’t feel like a headache, it feels like someone hit me in the head with a blunt object and it’s throbbing. Oh no, I have a brain tumor! I thought. This is the end. Now I have to write a will. (This is the part of being a writer that I hate — I read too much, plus I can fall into an imaginary reverie over just about anything.)

I asked Mr. Google: “head hurts day after migraine”. This is how I learned about the postdrome phase of migraines, which is all new to me.

What are the symptoms?

  • Fatigue
  • Difficulty concentrating/confusion
  • Dizziness/lightheadedness
  • Muscle weakness
  • Decreased energy
  • Mild head pain/sore feeling in the area where a migraine was
  • Euphoria OR depression

Fun Fact: Migraine postdrome has only been studied since 2004, so much additional research is needed.

  1. I just saw a graph that showed migraines dropping off after 60. For what it’s worth. Of course, they also spelled migraine wrong a couple of times.
