Coming attractions

Mercury goes retro tomorrow morning at 9:07 a.m. EST, and it’s in Cancer. (The U.S. horoscope is in Cancer.) Which leads me to think there will be something a little unusual about tomorrow’s SCOTUS ruling on DOMA.

So you all know the drill with Mercury retro. Don’t sign contracts, don’t buy electronics or machinery, etc. Do use the time to go back over past projects, ideas or relationship for new insight.

Jupiter entered Cancer today, too (the bigger and more slow-moving the planet, the more important its movements are). This will probably be a good period for me, since Jupiter in Cancer is the leading planet of my own natal chart. Since Jupiter is the planet of growth and expansion, and so many of you have Jupiter in Cancer, should be interesting!

Solar eclipse tonight

At 8:28 p.m. EST in Taurus.

Big Sky Astrology:

This New Moon/Solar Eclipse is in Taurus, “the money sign.” Since eclipse times are usually pretty frantic and stressful, many of us might be fretting a bit over our bank accounts lately. It’s no fun to feel worried about how you’re going to pay your rent or your car mechanic. So by all means, at this New Moon, do some rituals (I love this one from Dana Gerhardt) and set intentions around attracting more money into your life.

But to focus only on money is to miss the larger point of Taurus, and perhaps of whatever crisis in which you find yourself. And the larger point is the need for self-sufficiency.

Aries represents the challenge of withstanding immediate threat, but Taurus is where we meet the challenges of day-to-day survival. It represents how we put shelter over our heads, food on the stove, clothes on our back. If we don’t have these basic necessities or can’t provide them for ourselves, we’re in a serious crisis of security. Nowhere is this crisis more evident and immediate than in the way we feed ourselves.

Eclipses usually bring about forced change. In Taurus, these changes might have come in the form of reduced income or other resources, including your physical health. If that’s the case for you, you might be in the process of rethinking your relationship to the food you eat, either to save money or to feel better. And learning to do a little bit of cooking or gardening is a great first step.

Ahem

I didn’t say it when I wrote this (because I didn’t want to make people too paranoid), but this is the kind of crap I was talking about — both on a global and a personal level. Shit blowing up: BOOM! Boston. BOOM! West, TX. Astrologers have been talking about this for years as strong potential for another 9/11-type event. (Also this week: two 7+ earthquakes – so far.) If it interests you, the trigger seems to have been Pluto stationing on Sunday.

And these are slow moving planets, so it should last for a while. Drive carefully, bite your tongue, watch your temper. Shit’s gonna happen.

Supermoon

Apparently tonight’s full moon in Libra is a BFD. And it hits exactly on my sun — which, according to the laws of astrology, should mean it will have a direct impact. (One law of astrology is that no matter how intense the transits, they won’t affect you if it doesn’t hit something that already exists in your chart.) Whatever.

Susan Miller calls it a Monster Moon — “tightly calibrated, a pressure point of the year.” This Full Moon is unusually hot, with big squeeze-type angles to the provocative energies of Mars and Pluto. Being aware helps you to prepare!
