Mueller investigation: Kellyanne violated Hatch Act twice

Nothing will happen, of course, because Trump won’t enforce it:

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway violated the Hatch Act on two occasions, the Office of Special Counsel (OSC) informed the Trump administration Tuesday.

Appearing in her official capacity, Conway endorsed and advocated against political candidates, the watchdog said, referring its findings to President Trump “for appropriate disciplinary action.”

The violations occurred during two television appearances in 2017, one on Fox News’s “Fox and Friends,” and one on CNN’s “New Day.”

“While the Hatch Act allows federal employees to express their views about candidates and political issues as private citizens, it restricts employees from using their official government positions for partisan political purposes, including by trying to influence partisan elections,” OSC says in its report.

“Ms. Conway’s statements during the “Fox & Friends” and “New Day” interviews impermissibly mixed official government business with political views about candidates in the Alabama special election for U.S. Senate.”

The report goes on to state that Conway received “significant training” on the Hatch Act and possible violations. OSC says it gave Conway, a former GOP pollster who served as Trump’s campaign manager, the opportunity to respond as part of its report, but she did not.

Sen. Toomey On Lagging Health Care Reform: ‘I Didn’t Expect Donald Trump To Win’

This piece of shit Republican pretty much admits members of his party can’t win unless they cheat:

Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey (R) called for a “conversation” about impeaching state Supreme Court justices over their new congressional map, which both parties say will benefit Democrats.

At a press conference, Toomey said it was “inevitable” that state lawmakers would consider impeachment over the redrawing of the state’s new congressional maps, which he called a “power grab” by state Democrats.

“Look, I think it’s inevitable that that conversation’s going to take place,” Toomey said. “I think state House members and state senators are going to be speaking amongst themselves and their constituents, and the fundamental question is does this blatant, unconstitutional, partisan power grab that undermines our electoral process, does that rise to the level of impeachment?”

The new map released this week redraws congressional boundaries, throwing out a map written by Republicans that gerrymandered lines to benefit their party. Ten of the state’s 13 districts are now held by Republicans.

Republican lawmakers in Pennsylvania are expected to sue to overturn the new maps, which were put in place by the state’s Supreme Court after Democrats and Republicans in the state were unable to agree on a new map.

Russian trolls, etc.

No one can tell Russian bots from average trolls on Twitter, and that’s a very bad thing

I’m feeling sadly vindicated today. Because I worked for David Brock for four weeks during the primaries, I was labeled a “Hillary shill” when I talked about the Russian trolls on Twitter.

It wasn’t as if it was subtle. And I had a pretty reliable trick for confirming their origins.

Anyway, so here we are. The Russian trolls were told to attack Clinton, but not Trump, Sanders, or Stein — because it was useful to divide the Democratic party. And it did a good job suppressing minority turnout in the general.

I wish it hadn’t worked, but here we are.

This specific indictment says it provides no proof the Russians affected election results; I think that’s coming.
