Right now, I’m posting from work. There’s something really screwy with my home computer (mouse not working, windows opening and closing by themselves, etc. - yes, I already ran virus and spyware scans) and my Tech Sensei can’t confer with me until tomorrow.
So if I simply disappear until then, I wasn’t taken into custody. Don’t you worry.

Same thing happened to me. Like the computer was possessed, the cursor jumped all over the place, windows opening and closing at will. I thought for sure it was a virus. I panicked. Then I bought a new mouse, and the problem was solved. (Later the same thing happened with the new mouse, and the only thing I needed to do was restore the connection in the back of the computer which had been loosened and reboot.)
Well, it turns out it was a bad mouse, like Joe described. So now it’s okay (fingers crossed). Mithras, I run three antivirus programs and a firewall. If you’re getting spam with my address on it, it may very well have picked up the address out of YOUR address book.
Simiolarly, I had many emails vanish while I was composing them, and many cases of the system freezing up or shutting down simultaneously.
A cheap new keyboard solved the problem, and it came bundled with a mouse as well.
