I’m trying not to think about the hurricane (although you can donate here), so I turned on the Eagles Farewell Tour special instead. (The band, not the team.)
Except for Glenn Frey and Don Henley, they all look pretty beat, don’t they? Them’s some hard miles on those faces. (Joe Walsh’s face looks like the liver they took out of John Phillips.)
I once had a friend who considered the Eagles the nadir of American popular music. He hated them, just hated them, and was incredibly dismissive of anyone (especially one of his bandmates) who liked their music.
So one night, the band was playing out at this Mafia bar and there were some very scary-looking guys making, um, “requests.” (It was a lot like that scene in “The Godfather.”) Anyway, I was in the bar area, making conversation with some of the mob guys when one of them says to me, “I wonder what else they know that I like.”
I grinned and poked the guy’s shoulder. “Hey, I’ll bet you they know some Eagles songs!”
“Hey, great idea. Thanks!”
I do love to provoke people.

You witchy woman, you!
I just love this story … how many did he play?
Damn! I was hoping you meant the team!
(Born 25 miles from Lambeau; family season tickets since I was three. Just don’t mention 4th-and-26, and there won’t have any trouble.)
What scene in the Godfather? I or II? You’re not thinking of Tahoe are you?
think of “the big lebowski” when the Dude complains about the eagles and gets thrown out a cab….
I love “The Big Lebowski” and I love that scene. As I recall, the song was “Peaceful Easy Feeling.”
