It seems all a muddle. I don’t doubt that he would like to do better, but he doesn’t seem to be able to define a strategy around which he can align a majority that will stick with him. This is partly a Liebermann problem, and partly a problem of Senators like Nelson, but a competent leader counts the votes before he starts the ball rolling. Either Reid can’t do that, or he can’t keep the support when the push comes to shove - which means he is unwilling to shove back. Some noses need to get bloody, the push-back needs to get a lot harder.
Leadership? Haven’t seen any yet. Like the other top Dems, he has no balls. Stand up to Bush, Reid, do what most Americans want you to do. End the war, impeach Bush and Cheney, begin restoring the Constitution to its rightful place in American politics. Cowards, weasels, and wankers.
Reid, Pelosi, & Co. as leaders?
After events of this week, perhaps “enablers” is a better word. Similar codependency dramas are playing out in households across America every day.
“Okay, honey,” the head Democrats seem to be saying to Bush, “I know you’re an irresponsible, destructive drunk. But I’ll keep giving you money for booze ’cause you say you’re gonna start making progress on quitting the sauce come September.”
“Yeah, I know you’ve promised a hundred times already to stop blowing the family income on bourbon, to stop beating up me and the kids, and to stop busting up the furniture in your drunken rages. But THIS time I really believe you.”
“September, right?”
“Right, honey?”
The first thing to do to stop a drunk is quit giving him money for more booze. I wish the Democrats would wake the fuck up and smell the coffee.
