Taken from the official Texas GOP party platform for 2012:

We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills, critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education, which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority.

  1. More gonzo politics by the stupid-powers will be on dispaly in Brussels this weekend. The topic will be the war in Syria. Hillary will be there. So will the Syrian opposition, Russia, England, China, and a bunch of other non-critical thinkers from around the globe. Do you know who won’t be there? Representatives from Syria and Iran. That’s like staging a football game and showing up without a football. What a bunch of fools.

  2. The fact that politicians influence education (almost always in a negative way) is one of the biggest factors in the deplorable shape of our ed system. Teachers unions, the school as business model, the culture of passing students who are unprepared to go further to get rid of problem children, the curriculum (unchanged since the early 20th century), the whole “Carnegie units” idea of timed classes bunched together in a rigid schedule, sports taking first place in driving school policy, and on and on – these have made education in America rather 3rd world, have lead to high drop-out rates, leave students completely unprepared for the dismal future they face.
