Once Scott Walker was caught, GOP tried to change the law

Governor Scott Walker Wisconsin

They sure do hate democracy, don’t they? But uou have to give them credit, since things like justice and shame never play a part in their decision-making process. They never, ever, ever think about how their actions look to anyone else:

New documents indicate that just weeks after the first subpoenas were issued in Wisconsin’s “John Doe” criminal campaign finance probe in October 2013, senate Republicans had begun working to change state law to legalize the activities under investigation.

Legislative Republicans surprised many in the state in March of 2014 when they tried to rush Senate Bill 654 through the legislature to explicitly carve-out an exception to the state’s campaign finance statutes for so-called “issue ads,” those thinly-veiled election messages that stop short of telling viewers to vote for or against a candidate.

The John Doe investigation was never mentioned during testimony on SB 654 , even among the bill’s opponents.

At the time, the most obvious implication of SB 654 was less disclosure of funds spent to influence state elections. Many were also alarmed at how Republicans tried to fast-track the bill through the legislature in the final days of the legislative session, with minimal opportunity for public input.

“Forget, for a moment, the troubling provisions in these bills,” the Wisconsin State Journaleditorialized on March 6. “What’s most offensive is their late unveiling and speedy hearings that are designed to dodge public scrutiny.”

  1. More news from Florida: The Florida Republican Party will not appeal the judges decision concerning the unconstitutional congressional districts that the Republicans were responsible for drawing. If…… nobody does anything about it until the 2016 election. How big of them. The only way that the Republicans can get into office is by breaking the law. And once in office the Republicans will continually subvert the democratic process to stay in power.

  2. Republicans consider themselves above the law. The end justifies the means for them. Republicans have been cheating for decades. From funding to districting to counting votes to voter ID laws – any advantage obtained in any way is fine with them. The only significant voter fraud has been committed by Republicans. Karl Rove is the poster child for their playbook, but they’ve been at it since before Reagan committed treason to get into office.
