I do remember raising the question, back in the dear dead days of 2008, whether it would be possible to code a bot to automagically fill out online contribution forms in small amounts, beneath the FEC’s reporting requirements, thereby laundering it. Science Fiction stuff, unless you’re the sort of programmer who works for an investment bank, say.
It is, indeed, possible to create such a bot, and I’m convinced that’s exactly what they did.

They lied about this in 2008 as well – counting each donation under $200 rather than total dollars donated (so someone who made multiple small donations.
I’ve been watching clips of some of the 2008 campaign speeches – absolutely everything is qualified or designed to mislead – so we’ll be as “transparent as possible” for example.
