It really bothers me when people say women “won” the right to vote. It wasn’t like buying a winning lottery ticket. We had the right to vote all along, it was just finally, officially recognized — just as any right is.
That’s what makes them “rights.”
Thanks, Susie. It does cheer me up to hear you state the obvious logical comment, and at the same time, it depresses me that I did not think of it without you pointing it out. If I keep trying, I will become a fully grown feminist before I die, despite my many decades of conditioning in traditional southern U.S. society.
