How about a tribute to the Rockettes? Their high-kicks are spectacular. 🙂

I caught Annie Lennox is some pulsatingly rhythmic and intense rendtions of Christmas carols at the Rockefeller Center tree lighting ceremony. I loved what she did with the music.
Now, where to find….
I like The Drifters version of White Christmas

I had a tape I used to play when the drive back to WI started to seem really long, with Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. The only YouTube I found with the two I didn’t like, but this begins with I’ll Be Home With Bells On and is the uptempo that helped keep we awake driving that long flat grey ribbon of 80 West through Ohio.

Another Christmias drive home wake up song: Tommy Makem and the Clancy Brothers singing Jingle Bells in Gaelic and English. With very high energy.
Buala Bas from their Christmas album. I love that tape — and now I don’t have a car with a tape player.

And then there’s The Chieftains’ Bells of Dublin. God, I love every track on that album. I can’t find The Saint Stephen’s Day Murders, alas.
Here’s The Rebel Jesus. (Irish music is good for walking and for driving.)

This mens chorus from U of Iowa has an awesome Christmas medley.

Came across a YouTube of a whole song from Annie Lennox’s Christmas Cornucopia. The video adds to the effect for “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen.” A touch of…voodoo?

Well, Susie, you have led me into the temptation of sampling YouTube…time eater extraordinaire. Found this by Sting

Ultra-rare promotional video for Sting’s cover of “Gabriel’s Message,” featured on the first “A Very Special Christmas” album, released in 1987 as a benefit for the Special Olympics. The song itself is based on a 13th-Century Basque carol, translated in the 1800s. Lyrics:
The Angel Gabriel from Heaven came
His wings as drifted snow
His eyes as flame
“All Hail!” said he, “thou lowly maiden Mary,”
“Most Highly Favoured Lady,”
Gloria!
“For know a Blessed Mother thou shalt be,
All generations laud and honour thee
Thy Son shall be Immanuel, by seers foretold
Most highly favoured Lady,”
Gloria!
Then gentle Mary meekly bowed her head;
“To me, be as it pleaseth God,” she said.
“My soul shall laud and magnify His holy Name”
Most highly favoured Lady!
Gloria!
Of her Immanuel, the Christ was born,
In Bethlehem, all on a Christmas morn.
And everyone throughout the world will ever say,
“Most highly favoured lady!”
Gloria!
