i am of two minds on this.
if we’re talking about small non-profits like the ones I work at, then no, absolutely not.
On the other hand, when Mayor Michael Nutter proposed shutting down Philadelphia’s libraries (so he wouldn’t have to tax the rich) at lot of us argued that incredibly wealthy non-profits like UPenn be required to pay taxes. And isn’t Blue Cross/Blue Shield a nonprofit? why yes they are!
shouldn’t they be paying up?
The Blues are non-profit shell companies with dozens of for-profit and not-for-profit subsidiaries.
