Uh oh

Really bad news:

Plutonium has been detected in soil at five locations at the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Monday.

The operator of the nuclear complex said that the plutonium is believed to have been discharged from nuclear fuel at the plant, which was damaged by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

UPDATE: Let’s see. We have radioactive water now leaking directly into the ocean and it sure looks like we have at least a partial meltdown. Wheee!

Sometimes you just shouldn’t fuck with things.

  1. No no no! Everything is fine! Don’t worry! Plutonium is GOOD for you. Try it on your cereal. You’ll love it.

  2. Could this be a form of Karma, i.e., Japan’s way of getting back at the U.S. for Hiroshima, etc……………..? Oh, of course not!

  3. From CNN:
‘Three plutonium isotopes — Pu-238, -239 and -240 — were found in soil at five different points inside the plant grounds, Tokyo Electric reported. The element can be a serious health hazard if inhaled or ingested, but external exposure poses little health risk, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.’

See, you’re just so paranoid – It’s not dangerous!
    Just don’t eat/drink it.
    Silly.
I hereby invite anyone from the EPA to take a barefoot walk in the soil with Plutonium – I’m sure they’ll be lining up as soon as they read this.

  4. No, no. Our Corporate Overlords have assured us it’s all good. Just because they’ve lied in the past doesn’t mean they’re lying now . . .
