  1. Whenever ‘free enterprise’ and the ‘profit motive’ enters the picture corruption on a grand scale will surely follow. When will we all admit that Capitalism is a very destructive economic system?

  2. that’s a rather broad definition, Imhotep. It’s when the profit motive enters areas that shouldn’t be profit-driven -like education and health care- that free enterprise and profit motive become a problem. In many other areas, there’s no conflict. Same with capitalism: unfettered capitalism is a big corrupt problem.

Don’t forget the US prison system, which is the world’s largest.

  4. brendancalling, The National People’s Congress met in The Great Hall of the People in China today. This group of 3000 of China’s most influential and wealthy politicians was lectured to by Premier Wen Jiabao for 1 hour and 50 minutes about corruption. Corruption is a huge problem in Communist/Capitalist China. Most of the wealthy people in that hall being lectured to made there money selling Chinese real estate. These corrupt officials buy the land from Chinese peasents using the legal tactic of imminent domain. They give the peasants a fraction of what the land is worth and then sell it to their cronies for big bucks to build shopping centers and the like. That’s known as the Capitalist profit motive. So is the buying and selling of land an acceptable place for Capitalism to be practiced?
