  1. Good news and bad news. CO2 emissions in the US are at their lowest levels in 20 years. Since 2005 the percentage of electricity generated by coal fired power plants has gone from 50% to 34%. That’s a 40 year low and was accomplished by substituting natural gas for coal. That’s the good news. The bad news…..fracking.

  2. Cuomo is such a corporatist I knew he would let frackers frack. And he’s been giving the finger to the Dem base and liberals since he was elected. But, like Obama, he did give fair warning that he would do many of the things he’s done which adversely affect the lower economic quintiles. People just didn’t believe he would not be a Dem like his father. Many still don’t get what he is and what he’s doing and undoing.

From the <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/20/new-york-allow-fracking-state-guidelines-labor-day_n_1810158.htmlHuffPo article linked to in Susie’s link:

    QUOTE

Although the state’s pending approval comes as a disappointment to environmentalists, Cuomo is likely to only allow fracking in limited areas that want drilling to take place in their communities.

But some say such limitations are not enough, and in fact “treat Southern Tier residents as second class citizens and unfairly subject them to potentially irreparable hazards.”

    END QUOTE

However, the town next door will have its roads beaten up by all the heavy trucking, its waters polluted possibly, its air fouled. This sucks big time, New Yorkers.

Will those towns be able to sue for damages to their areas?
