No contest. Savage wins on every point. The marvelous, albeit disturbing thing is WHY he wins on every point–evolution (yeah, yeah, it’s a theory–pfft) does not necessarily have to manifest itself in a physical way, as we commonly and lazily tend to think. The evolution of human thought has been occurring for quite some time now (since, oh, say, the Enlightenment), and seems to be at fever pitch of late, and thus a large part of humanity HAS evolved to a point that rational thought in re: the role of government, media, science, the marketplace, and sexuality (among many other things) is at odds with another large part of humanity, which has somehow been excluded from said evolution, and is far less capable of rational thought, preferring instead to adhere to old ways of thought or the easy path of groupthink, with another segment preferring (or incapable of) not bothering themselves with new ideas that make their heads hurt. (Thanks, Big Media!)
Our tragedy is that those who aren’t evolved (and cynical bastards who know how to use them…again, thanks, Big Media…oh, and you too, government!) aren’t able to coexist with those who are. They see “the smart kids” (sorry, high school IS forever) as a threat to their existence, and are given validity by Fox et al. who tell them that they’re coming for their guns and their Jesus. And I don’t see that changing any time soon, when it needs to so very desperately, as our poor world is being destroyed under our feet.
It’s reached a point where I’ve lost any optimism that we might be able to right ourselves. We’re going to watch, either screaming at the top of our lungs here in the rational blogosphere (although even that seems to be on the decline), or idiotically wondering why all of the food’s gone away and the rivers are all dry, until it all comes to a slow agonizing end. And there’ll STILL be people praying to Jeebus for salvation. I plan on finding some medication or methodology that’ll allow me a graceful exit before I have to see that.
And just so this comment isn’t completely dour, I think Dan or his husband mischievously slipped a little Santorum in Brian’s dinner–see approx. 27:30 or 41:10 and take a look at Brown’s mouth. Eww.
