Lynch mentality lives on

From ThinkProgress:

Burnt Orange Report published a picture of a chair hanging from a tree in front of a house in Austin, Texas. In a dark twist on Clint Eastwood’s empty chair meme, it appears the resident, Bud Johnson, lynched the chair as an effigy of President Obama. When asked about the unnerving racist display, the homeowner, a Republican, responded, “I don’t really give a damn whether it disturbs you or not. You can take [your concerns] and go straight to hell and take Obama with you. I don’t give a shit. If you don’t like it, don’t come down my street.” Another chair was lynched last week in Virginia.

  1. My cynicism about the American voter runs pretty deep. But this kind of retro-racism stands zero chance of persuading and an overwhelming likelihood of blowing back among the few remaining persuadables.

  2. lless, stupid people vote for Republicans is what Santorum said. If anyone is still in the “persuadables” category at this late date then they are stupid. You don’t reason with stupid, racist, warmongers. Because you can’t. They are unteachable. So you cut down their chair, smash it into a thousand pieces, and go on your way without saying a word. But do it quickly bacause they may be armed.

  3. Registered voter or not, bust his chair and give this racist, red-neck, “the South will rise again,” clown something else to worry about.

  4. Mr Johnson would do well to remember that the guy his effigy represents has access to drones and the Secret Service. And knows how to use them.
