Trying to decide whether to duct-tape my windows. I know they don’t keep them from breaking, but it should keep the shards from blowing around.
Anyone with any experience with that sort of thing?

Having experienced a dozen of these things the fact is that taping windows is a waste of time. The wind doesn’t break them. A flying 2×4 or trash can does and taping them won’t help. For the anemophobics out there the next 48 hours is not going to be very pleasant. Fill up the tub, fill up the sinks, and get as much water as you can. Cook everything in your freezer. The electricity will go out and food thaws. Then fill the MT freezer with water and make as much ice as you can. Have some bleach on hand. A few drops in bad water will make it drinkable. Then just hunker down and try to enjoy the ride. There’s nothing you can do to stop mother nature anyway.
Imhotep’s pretty much got the right of it. If stuff starts blowin’ around the neighborhood and bouncing off the exterior walls, keep to interior spaces with something between you and the windows.
Don’t even bother with the tape. Any possible benefit isn’t worth the trouble you’ll suffer when you have to scrape that stuff off again, not to mention the risk of injury.
Susie, don’t you have a fallout shelter?
If not, just stay under your school desk.
