Obama signs bill restoring military death benefits

So the people who die in our many military misadventures are somehow more sacred than the people whose kids are starving? The pregnant women who aren’t eating? Way to stand firm, Mr. President!

  1. You god damn morons pass all of these things with the sequester restored and the problem will land in the laps that created it.

  2. Really? Some 18 year old kid with no prospects enlists in the military to have some financial security, gets married, has a kid or two and winds up getting killed in a war started by politicians far removed from the sacrifice and you begrudge the spouse and children getting some small amount of help?
A lot of innocent people are currently getting screwed by the shutdown. Of all the facets of this worth complaining about the fact that one tiny group of people currently getting screwed will now get screwed a little less is NOT a problem.
That’s the same argument I’m sick to death of having with my working class friends: I get shit pay and benefits but that union/government/lucky working class person over there gets better pay and benefits so the solution is cut that other persons pay and benefits.
Yeah, that’ll show the elites, won’t it?
    Solidarity!!!!

  3. I don’t even know what you all are talking about. I also don’t know why I’m here.

Obama did something? Is that it? But the repukes can’t accept it in all their Jesus-ness?

Oh my dear sweet Jesus, keep me from cussing. They are ALL absolutely disgusting.

  4. Pop Quiz.
Obama specifically holds firm on this. The press presents it as:
No Big Deal, A Foundation Is Taking Care of It
    OR
President to Families of Slain Troops: Nothing For You
Are you seriously arguing that it would have been smarter for the President to make a point of refusing death benefits to the families of soldiers killed in the line of duty than to agree to it?
I find it morally offensive – if we don’t have an obligation to such people then we have no moral obligations, period. But forget that, I’ll take it as you are trying to present it: as a political act. Politically it would be a disaster. The Republicans are hemorrhaging at this point – they are at an historic low in the polls. Why would Obama give them such an easy diversion to scream from the rooftops about?
The single dumbest thing Obama could have done – from a purely political standpoint – would have been to refuse to budge on military death benefits.
