  1. Thanks for that, Suze. After Coltrane there were very few, except his wife, Alice, who recorded such wonderful improvisations of that cut. Tyner, along with a very small group of Coltrane/ Bird followers, never could duplicate the passion and emotion that the melody and words bring to the heart and soul of any one who may be listening.
    I had the honor of hearing many of the greats that appreciably you remember and bring to your blog. Back in the day, the ‘chittlin’ circuit of the 50’s meant that the black or Jewish-owned clubs were the only places you could witness such great talent. I was just a kid then, but my daddy and uncles slid me in so that I could hear—live—some of the greatest music ever, played by some of the greatest musicians the world has ever known! Thanks Suze.
