Shut up, Marjorie

I don’t know how I missed it that Marjorie Margolies Mezvinsky (aka Chelsea Clinton’s mother-in-law) is running for PA’s 13th District Congressional seat, but dear God, this writer does such a great job of conveying how she’s stuck in a time warp from the 90s. Why is she running in the now-solidly blue 13th? No one else wanted to run?

  1. I had a phone conversation with her once. I was actually asking her to help me with something and what I got was a series of name dropping that seemed to be more about pumping up herself than dealing with my request. We ended with her inviting me to follow up with email. Which I did. I never received a response.

  2. just 2 more haters…do folks really donate to this site? for pithy comments like “shut up marjorie”…what valuable content.

It would appear that the District 13 Democratic Party establishment thinks Mezvinsky is their kind of candidate.

On the other hand, the article’s author recalls an account of the 1994 election which Mezvinsky lost:

“…This is a candidate who is eager to cut Social Security and other benefits for working families. She sounds like a garden variety Republican, although the Republican that beat her in 1994 was more a defender of Social Security than she was– and the way she disappointed the Democratic base and kept voters away from the polls is why she was really defeated that year…”

So – a candidate who disappointed her party’s base 20 years ago, and really kept them away from the polls.

But perhaps people are eager now to vote for a candidate who will explore ways to make it easy for more well off retirees to give their Social Security checks back to the government.

That should get the base fired up, shouldn’t it?
