Ya know I just saw Charlie Chaplin in Limelight with Claire Bloom. AFAIC they are both English, Charlie didn’t come here until he was in his teens.
Anyway, set in London, they both employ an English accent that is NOT INCOMPREHENSIBLE Cockney. Did actors just speak in a sort of uppercrust understandable ‘University’ English back in the day?
