He’s baaack

Jon Stewart is already returning to TV, thanks to a new deal with HBO

Nice! Because he’s really, really good at this:

It’s official: Jon Stewart is bad at retirement.

HBO has announced that it’s closed a four-year production deal with the erstwhile Daily Show host. While it will give HBO a first-look option at any television or film ventures of his, their collaboration will kick off with “developing new technology that will allow him to produce timely short-form digital content, which will be refreshed on HBO NOW multiple times throughout the day.”

So basically: Stewart will do some bite-size current event sketches, which HBO will then release on its new standalone streaming service and news websites will subsequently post for your enjoyment and education. (Speaking of: Have you seen John Oliver’s piece on how state elections could affect Obamacare?)

“Appearing on television 22 minutes a night clearly broke me,” Stewart says in the press release. “I’m pretty sure I can produce a few minutes of content every now and again.” HBO, swooping in to grab Stewart before a crucial election year, is certainly counting on it.
