Tell me baby

I met Walter Hyatt a week or two before he died in a plane crash. He was playing at the folk club where I was a volunteer, and we were alone in the kitchen while he was tuning his guitar. It was an old Stella, and he’d had it completely rebuilt. That thing rang like a bell, as he showed me.

I still can’t believe how bad I felt about that guitar lying at the bottom of the ocean.

  1. I never had the fortune to see Walter, but loved that album and the two Uncle Walt’s Band compilations that Sugar Hill put out. His wife is keeping the UWB legacy alive, though–she’s rereleased all three of the original UWB albums, and although they’re homemade CD-Rs, they sound wonderful.
