Tommy Christopher at Mediate first caught the misleading edit in this Chris Hayes story:

As Mediaite reported over the weekend, MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes ran a clip of former President Bill Clinton on Friday that was deceptively edited to make it seem as though Clinton was unfavorably comparing President Barack Obama with Hillary Clinton. After a weekend of heated Twitter activity over the story, host Chris Hayes addressed the issue on Monday night’s All In, issuing something in between an apology and a bunch of excuses.

Hayes promised angry Twitter followers he would address it Monday night. But as it turns out, not so much.

“We did not characterize Clinton as trashing the president or slamming them, as others did. We said he went off-message, which is arguably true. Here’s the important thing. In cutting off that clip, we didn’t allow you the chance to make that judgment for yourself in the full light of context. We shouldn’t have done that.”

No, Chris, you didn’t say those things, but you showed them. In cutting off the clip in the middle of a sentence, you not only sensationalized Bill Clinton’s comments, you misled voters. It’s far outside the realm of journalistic practices, and it’s not acceptable.

Here’s the transcript of what Bill Clinton really said, via Mediaite.

  1. Shame on Chris.
Here’s some other things Bill said on Monday.
“We are too politically polarized in our own Party.”
Bernie is telling people “what they want to hear.”
We keep rewarding people “like the Republicans rewarded the Tea Party.”
If we don’t stop doing that “we can’t go forward.”
It’s good to know that Bill believes that the progressives in his Party are a pack of non-critical thinking lemmings who are following a Pied Piper over the cliff as they grab for a bag full of smoke and mirrors.
