Fort McMurray was one on the first places on the planet that extracted oil from oil sands.
That was in the 30’s by Abasands Oil.
In the 1970’s oil sands extraction became big business in Canada and Mc Murray grew from a few thousand souls to 50,000 almost overnight.
Extracting oil from oil sands is a dirty business that destroys the environment.
It’s those gigantic holes that they dig in the ground which they later fill with the toxic waste created by the refining process.
It’s ironic that this hell on earth may burn to the ground.
