Yesterday the voters in Chicago swung for the fences and hit a home run by electing political novice Lori Lightfoot as their new mayor.
The voters replaced a politically well-connected, straight, white guy with a gay, black, female who has never run for office before.
She beat back a challenge from an entrenched, Democratic, political heavyweight who was hand-picked by ex-mayor Rahm Emanuel.
The key issue in this election was which candidate was the most progressive. Mayor Lightfoot won that argument going away.
The Democratic Party must nominate the most progressive candidate available to run against Trump in 2020.
