Running government like a PR agency

The Trump administration is incompetent at things that actually need to get done, and very good at the things that dismantle government.

  1. To date the federal government has spent $3.6 trillion in the fight against the coronavirus.
That’s all borrowed money that needs to be recouped ASAP.

$1.4 trillion could be recovered by repealing the Trump/Republican tax cut for the rich.

$1.5 trillion could be recovered by cutting the military budget by 20%.
The amount that Trump has unnecessarily dumped into the military budget since he took office.

The remaining $700 billion could be raised by re-imposing the estate tax on the wealthy, by instituting a transaction fee on Wall Street, and by increasing taxes on corporations.

Republicans are the “enemy of the people.”

  2. While I can get behind your fiscal ideas, please remember that all of that borrowed money does not, in fact, need to be “recouped ASAP” or indeed, at all.
All of that debt we ran up fighting world war two? When exactly did we pay that all back?
Oh, that’s right, we didn’t pay it back. And what kind of fiscal catastrophe did we suffer for our profligacy?
Oh, that’s right, we experienced the most affluent period in human history.
Yes, things were very fucked up for many, many people during the post-war boom, but none of that was due to any consequences of not paying down the war debt.

  3. The war debt was $285 billion and much of it was “resolved” during the post war boom which the US profited from handily right up until the oil crisis of the 1970’s.

But you’re right that $285 billion was never fully paid back.

Do you see a post-pandemic boom on the horizon for the US?
