Apparently Trump has decided to adopt warmonger Flournoy’s advice on having “more modest levels of continuous presence” in the wars in the Middle East instead of ending these endless wars and bringing our troops back home.
When Biden is sworn into office we will have:
1000 combat troops in Syria,
2500 in Iraq,
2500 in Afghanistan,
god knows how many in Yemen because nobody is keeping count,
peacekeepers in the Sinai,
the largest US embassy in the world located in Baghdad’s Green Zone,
13000 troops stationed at the Al Udeid US Air Base in Qatar,
7000 troops at the US Naval Support Activity Base in Bahrain,
5000 troops assigned to three bases in the UAE; the Al Minhad Air Base, the Al Dhafra Air Base and the Fujairah Naval Base.
Is all of this a “modest level of presence” in the ME?
It’s no wonder the Middle East is in a constant state of turmoil.
Hopefully Biden will cut that part of the military budget which funds forward deployments and begins to bring some sanity back into our foreign policy despite the howling of Moscow Mitch and the rest of the warmongers.
