In 1994 Joe Biden wrote the crime bill which authorized 100,000 new cops to be hired as Clinton had requested.
That was the first step toward the militarization of the 14,000 police departments in this country.
It also accounted for the explosion in the construction of new prisons that were required to house all of the new inmates that the 100,000 new cops would arrest and prosecute.
Most of them poor and Black.
Biden called the legislation “a mistake.”
Yesterday the Senate passed a bill which would fund 100,000 new cops (97-3). See Cory Booker.
