Hey I remember when a letter cost 3 cents to mail. But we are dying out so no one will ever know soon.
It’s actually worse than a “regular” business. The Postal Service, unlike it’s private competitors for example, has to pre-pay the healthcare benefits for its retirees. It also essentially subsidizes its competitors and other private businesses. Essentially, it was set up to fail. Not to blogwhore, but I discussed the Postal Service in the context of the “public option” awhile back and why it has failed and why it meant any public option would fail (a post I’m still kind of proud of).
