Gowdy says Trump advisors should quit if Trump won’t listen to intel

Rep. Trey Gowdy not seeking re-election

Via Talking Points Memo, Trey Gowdy keeps having these sporadic breaks of honesty — like this, when he just warned Trump he needed to get in line with his intelligence service:

“The evidence is overwhelming, it can be proven beyond any evidentiary burden, that Russia is not our friend and they tried to attack us in 2016,” Gowdy told Fox News’ Bret Baier. “So the President either needs to rely on the people that he has chosen to advise him, or those advisers need to re-evaluate whether or not they can serve in this administration.”

“But the disconnect cannot continue. The evidence is overwhelming and the President needs to say that and act like it.”

Baier had asked Gowdy, who announced his retirement earlier this year, if he agreed with fellow House Intelligence Committee member Rep. Will Hurd’s (R-TX) op-ed in the New York Times Thursday asserting that Trump had “actively participated in a Russian disinformation campaign that legitimized Russian denial [of election interference] and weakened the credibility of the United States to both our friends and foes abroad.”

Gowdy didn’t answer directly, but said Trump had access to more evidence than anyone and specifically mentioned Trump’s access to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, FBI Director Christopher Wray, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, and United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, all of whom Trump nominated for those roles.

“There is no way you can listen to the evidence and not conclude not that the Democrats were the victims, but the United States of America were the victims,” he said separately, adding: “There was this equivocation during the press conference that — I’m glad he corrected it — but when you’re the leader of the free world, every syllable matters, and you really shouldn’t be having to correct it when you’re the leader of the free world.”

Oh, the irony! Oh, my aching sides!

Just another crazy day at Bizarro Congress:

Trey Gowdy dismisses the GOP intelligence report

Trey Gowdy Just Sealed Robert Mueller’s Fate With One Shocking Reveal!

Trey’s so much more honest since he decided not to run for reelection. Plus, any time anyone uses the words “GOP” and “intelligence” in the same sentence, I get the giggles:

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) said Sunday that he places more faith in federal investigators’ conclusions on Russian election meddling than those of Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee, of which he is a member.

“The President, when he looks at your report, feels vindicated,” CBS’ “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan told Gowdy in an interview. “Are you saying he should not?”

“I want to be careful how I phrase this,” Gowdy responded. “No report— The best we can do is say what we’ve learned.”

“I can’t say what’s in the universe of witnesses we have not talked to,” he continued. “And I have always maintained I am awaiting the Mueller investigation. They get to use a grand jury. They have investigative tools that we don’t have.”

“Executive branch investigations are just better than congressional ones. So we found no evidence of collusion. Whether or not it exists or not, I can’t speak to, because I haven’t interviewed the full panoply of witnesses.”

Republicans on the Intelligence Committee released a heavily redacted report on Friday clearing Trump of accusations that his campaign conspired with Russia during the 2016 election. Democrats on the committee released a counter-report and have long claimed that their GOP colleagues did not sufficiently pursue relevant questions and witnesses.

Even Trey Gowdy ridicules Scott Pruitt

Which tells you how bad Scott Pruitt is!

If the EPA chief was genuinely concerned with his exposure to potentially dangerous passengers, he would choose to sit at the very back of the plane, Gowdy argued.

“If you really want to avoid people on the plane, sit in the last seat not the first seat,” he said.

Gowdy added that he would be “shocked” if many members of the general public even knew who Pruitt was, but that, as a government official, Pruitt should be prepared to take criticism from the public.

“The notion that I’ve got to fly first class because I don’t want people to be mean to me, you need to go into another line of work if you don’t want people to be mean to you,” he said, joking that Pruitt should become a monk in order to avoid interacting with anyone.

On Friday, Gowdy expanded his committee’s investigation into Pruitt’s travel and security practices and requested interviews with several of the administrator’s top aides. This comes a day after Gowdy’s staff met with a former EPA aide, Kevin Chmielewski.

Imagine how low you have to go to upset Trey Gowdy

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) on Sunday blasted Donald Trump’s lawyer for calling for an end to special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. In a statement over the weekend, Trump attorney John Dowd said that Mueller should end his investigation. “I pray that Acting Attorney General Rosenstein will follow the brilliant and courageous example of the FBI Office… Continue reading “Imagine how low you have to go to upset Trey Gowdy”
