I haven’t had a chance to read this yet, but everyone’s talking about “The Republican Nemesis,” this essay on what the Democrats need to do to win.

By the way, this one looks pretty good, too. But it’s not as, um, cheery.

I have now read “The Republican Nemesis”, and I have to agree with Mr. Kroeger. The main Republican tactic is to ridicule, disparage, poke fun atâ€¦

Remember the flip-flops and the purple heart band aids? Well, Dems have a golden opportunity to ridicule, disparage, poke fun at Rethugs this time around. Katrina begs to be the humiliation of the Republican party. Look what a colossal FUBAR they’ve made of New Orleans! What buffoons! Hahahahaha!

I’ve read both pieces, and between them they spell out the last four decades of the American experiment:

“From 1980 to 2020, the reins of government increasingly fell to oligarchs and their loyal elected minions. Every act of government served to enrich the corporate and investor classes in effect, and govern the nation only in appearance. The inevitable result of this perpetual internal piracy was the collapse, through underfunding, of effective social legislation. Once programs became ineffective, they could be eliminated. There were no winners, in the end, except those who had been winning all along.”
