Clay County prosecutors on Friday charged an Excelsior Springs couple with child abuse for allegedly beating a 9-year-old with a Bible and slamming an 8-year-old into a door.
Authorities allege that Raymond Fairchild, 49, and Deborah Fairchild, 50, punished the foster children for numerous perceived transgressions such as eating too slowly, forgetting to bring the dog in, washing the dishes too slowly and not taking notes in church.
Court documents state that the children were also whipped, punched, shoved to the floor and locked out of the house without shoes or coats after dark. Authorities allege that the children were told they would go to jail if they told.
Another means of discipline included making the children squat with their hands on top of their heads, authorities said. One child was whipped because she had cried about having to squat, authorities alleged.
“A person who would hit a child with a Bible is someone who should have spent more time reading it,†said Clay County Prosecutor Dan White.

Any worse than this?

We’re really on a roll here in metropolitan Kansas City, what with this and that “happy little story” of the Catholic Church that didn’t renew the contract of the gay man who had contributed so muc over the years. Too bad they aren’t so demonstratively concerned about the child abusers that they continue to hide.
