Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley is now the Democratic Party’s own Mitt Romney. He told gay activists he’d support same-sex marriage while he was running for governor, and now (oops!) he’s citing his Catholicism as the reason he can’t.
O’Malley, who has been dogged by rumors of infidelity, apparently has rediscovered his faith. How… convenient.
The gay community has been tolerant and understanding of politicians for a long time. They know in a tight race, politicians are reluctant to publicly support gay causes if it could cost them the election, and they’ve always settled for a private pledge.
And look what it got them this time. Marylanders deserved much more from O’Malley. Too bad he doesn’t remember “Thou shalt not bear false witness.”
