They told us we need enormous tax cuts OR ELSE THE ECONOMY WILL COLLAPSE, to accept increasing wealth disparity OR ELSE THE ECONOMY WILL COLLAPSE, to strip environmental protections OR ELSE THE ECONOMY WILL COLLAPSE, to get screwed on health care costs OR ELSE THE ECONOMY WILL COLLAPSE, to slash federal spending on beneficial and necessary programs OR ELSE THE ECONOMY WILL COLLAPSE, to abandon parts of the constitution to fight terrorists OR ELSE THE ECONOMY WILL COLLAPSE, to blame Katrina victims for their own misfortunes OR ELSE THE ECONOMY WILL COLLAPSE, to take on debt like there’s no tomorrow OR ELSE THE ECONOMY WILL COLLAPSE, to support an idiotic war for oil OR ELSE THE ECONOMY WILL COLLAPSE, and to never, ever even think about reducing energy consumption OR ELSE THE ECONOMY WILL COLLAPSE.
And that worked out well, didn’t it?
